APC ES 700 Back-UPS
Bets on this post being the dullest ever? Read on!!!
I’ve been meaning to buy a UPS for quite a while (along with the other backup kit and Drobo I’ve recently bought) so I had a scout around and pulled this beauty out of the melee of battery wielding power and surge battling juggernauts.
It does exactly what it says on the tin – 8 surge protected plug points (as opposed to kettle lead type) so you can connect any device not just PC based gear, 4 of which are on battery backup and modem/data/phone line surge protection.
The Drobo, Mac, PC and monitor are connected up to the battery back up and the installed software will instruct the PC/Mac to shutdown if the battery should reach a certain number of minutes left of power, then the Drobo should go into sleep mode when on device is writing to it but it won’t shutdown. The best I can do is prevent data from being lost and hopefully the disks have spun down by the time the power is yanked.
This thing is large and it’s heavy, make sure you’ve got enough room for it, other than that.. highly recommended
